Dr Sumita SinghM¨¢y ?¨¢nh b?c is one of the best Lipoma Surgeon in India. Lipomas are non cancerous tumours made of fatty tissue. The lipomas are soft to touch and normally do not cause any pain. However if you keep feeling them then at some stage they may become harder and start giving a pain sensation. They are mostly found on the arms, abdomen, back and legs. The size could be anything from 1 cm to 10 cms. They are mostly found in people in the age bracket of 40 to 60 years however they could be found in young adults also. The Lipomas have a very rare chance of becoming cancerous where they are called Liposarcomas.
M¨¢y ?¨¢nh b?cThe Lipomas are removed mostly for cosmetic reasons and not for any medical benefits. If the Lipomas are visible to others then they can cause mental stress to the patient and in such cases we remove the Lipomas through a small surgery which can be done in Outpatient department without admitting the patient.
Usually, treatment of a lipoma is not necessary, unless the tumor becomes painful or restricts movement. They are usually removed for cosmetic reasons, if they grow very large, or for histopathology to check that they are not a more dangerous type of tumor such as a liposarcoma. This last point can be important as the characteristics of a "bump" are not known until after it is removed and medically examined.
M¨¢y ?¨¢nh b?c Lipomas are normally removed by simple excision. The removal can often be done under local anaesthesia, and takes less than 30 minutes. This cures the great majority of cases, with about 1?% of lipomas recurring after excision. Our surgeons have developed a technique in which large lipomas can be removed through a very small incision measuring around 1 cm. The incision is then closed using staplers and no dressing is required after the surgery. The staplers are removed after a week and there is a very minimal scar at the point of incision.
M¨¢y ?¨¢nh b?cMost of the patients who have less than 5 lipomas can get the surgery done in the outpatient department and the cost would be approximately INR 20,000 for less than 5 lipomas. However there are patients who have a large number of lipomas in the body (upto 50). Such patients are better managed if they get admitted to the hospital and the excision is done in the operation theatre under spinal or general anaesthesia. Our specialist surgeons Dr Sumita Singh and Dr Pramod Prasad have removed more than 100 lipomas in a single patient. In such cases the the cost is around INR 80,000 - 1,20,000 depending upon the time taken to complete the surgery. Typically 50-60 lipomas can be removed in a four hour procedure and the cost for this would be approximately INR 1,00,000.
